Wineyards

Day 31 - 34   A whole month has already gone by wow.  We all would love to go back to Barcelona but we have to come back to France and do lots of work ugh.

Day 35  So another Friday trip, this time to French vineyards.  We visited a huge vineyard that produces many different high quality wines and learned all about how they grow them and maintain the plants and fruits.  We did not learn much on the process after the grapes are picked but we learned everything about the plants.  They told us that when the Americans came to help them during the Wars that we brought a bacteria that is found in wood and has been killing their trees ever since.  Whooops sorry we also brought disease to the roots of their plants, their soil does not support the roots of their plants so they bring in roots from America and grow French grape vines with the American roots because our roots are immune as are our trees.  Maybe they hate us because we ruined there vineyards?  Although most of the older French people are grateful to Americans for the wars but the younger people do not like us at all.  At the second vineyard their was also a mansion from the 1700s and the family who founded the vineyard still lives their and are the main wine makers.  We met the current owner and his family he showed us around the vineyard and we also had a tour of the house.  The house during WWII was taken over by the Germans and they lived their for a while but thankfully it is still standing after the war.  We had a wine tasting of four types of wine after the trip and then some people bought some of the wine from the store.  When we were tasting he told us to first look then smell then taste.  You look to see how fast the wine falls and the shape it falls in and then you look for two smells, a flower and a fruit and for the taste you look for the fruit as well.
